Growing Hope
Our successful Growing Hope project is back for its third year! We have been fortunate enough to secure 900 boxes from Vegware to produce our growing kits again. This year, we are planning to get another 900 kits made up and have already enlisted the help of church members and schools to put some of the kits together. Please let us know if you want some kits to distribute in your community and tell us how many you would like. These will be ready to go out by end of March / beginning of April. If you would like to put the kits together yourselves, we can supply you with all the materials. You could make this part of an activity with children or voluntary groups. Please specify whether you want ready made kits or whether you can make them up yourselves - get in touch for more information!
Growing Hope
2020: The coronavirus pandemic may have disrupted normal food supply chains but a city-wide project helped thousands of Cardiff families grow their own food at home. Nearly 14,000 plants, seeds and growing kits were distributed to families across Cardiff during lockdown as part of the Sustainable Food City project, which encouraged people to grow their own fruit and vegetables at home.
A team of 70 volunteers from 16 community groups came together to help grow and hand out plants and seeds to more than 3,000 households, care homes, and foodbanks. They are also taught people how to their own food with online classes. Food Cardiff, Social Farms and Gardens Wales Edible Cardiff, Cardiff Salad Garden, Global Gardens, Green Squirrel and EggSeeds were among the groups involved. Read more HERE.

2021: We repeated this project in 2021 with the distribution of 600 kits. They were distributed out through the Cardiff Council Food Parcels, community cafes and groups across the city.
